Ben Heimsath's Op Ed piece in today's Austin American Statesman outlines a call to continue Austin's code reform in spite of the demise of CodeNext. Ben draws upon his experience as a former chair of the City of Austin Planning Commission and his work in the past to promote positive changes to the development process. Ben's remarks were in response to the Austin Council's unanimous vote to scrap the CodeNext program. The Mayor, however, has called on the City Manager to construct a new process and to continue the reform effort. We hope these comments can call attention to valuable lessons learned in support of a better approach.
