The Center for Heritage Conservation at Texas A&M hosted its 21st annual Historic Preservation Symposium on Feb. 14-15, 2020. With the theme of “Preservation in Practice,” Ben Heimsath presented the firm’s process of preservation featuring engagement with building users.
Ben's talk featured current projects, including the newly completed restoration of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Ben reviewed the process of congregation involvement that began with the initial facilities master plan.
Ben also shared his experience as a member of the City of Austin Historic Landmark Commission. He discussed the circumstances around the loss of a potential historic landmark, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Ben has shared his advice to owners contemplating demolition of an older building. The Symposium was well attended with experts from across Texas and other states.
