A glorious sunrise led us eastward toward Shiner, Texas on Sunday morning to celebrate with the congregation of United Evangelical Lutheran Dr. Martin Luther Church the next step in our shared vision.

After worshipping we processed outside for a groundbreaking ceremony. Senior Pastor Elaine Gomulka led the gathered in prayer. Drawings and specifications were handed over from architect Sandy Stone and Kathryn Coffey of Heimsath Architects to Karen Blohm, the church council president and on to Merle Richardson, the construction team coordinator. Pastor Elaine, Associate Pastor Paul Muehlbrad, Karen Blohm, Merle Richardson and building committee chair Loretta Krejci took turns turning over some earth!

The church will soon begin construction of a fellowship hall extension, music room/sacristy/vesting addition, replacement of the entire facility's roof and restoration of the existing steeple. The sanctuary will be expanded and a flexible seating arrangement will be situated toward the front altar area while maintaining traditional pew seating in the rest of the nave.
