With a limited budget, Heimsath Architects was commissioned for selective additions and renovations to an existing campus in East Austin. The program called for an expansion to the aging and overused library, renovations to the administration area to add a nurses’ station, and replacement or upgrade of air-conditioning units.

The architects worked closely with the District staff and the campus advisory committee to maximize the impact of a limited budget.   With a creative addition, the design was able to transform the library into a vibrant learning center and meeting space. A number of circulation issues were fixed providing better layout for staff in the administration area. A new nurse’s station was added. As a bonus, the entry was redesigned to provide a sheltered porch for arrivals and pick-ups. Mechanical replacements and various drainage and accessibility issues were also addressed.
