As part of Phase Three of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd project, a new two-story educational building for the Good Shepherd Episcopal School was built on the campus. This building doubled the size of the existing classroom spaces. The first floor was designed as an early childhood center, but is also used for Sunday school. The second floor includes spaces for all parts of the church, including a media room, art room, music room, offices, and youth area. A new vestry room anchors the tower facade and doubles as a large meeting room.
Two new playgrounds were also built: one in the courtyard for younger children, and one for older children. A new structured parking area is hidden below the older children’s playground, which is shaded by building mounted canopies. This subgrade parking lot is light and airy with windows to the east and large areaways to the north and south. This bright garage can be used for drop-off and larger events like mass preparing relief packages.
The Parish Life Center was designed for larger events and worship. It includes a full commercial kitchen that is capable of feeding the congregation and serving as a ministry to feed those less fortunate in the Austin community. The exterior is designed to blend in with the rest of the campus and provides the second of the three arches for the courtyard.
