A new set of roadside memorials have been placed on both sides of the intersection of Hwy 71 and FM 955 near Ellinger, Texas in rural Fayette County. Flowers and a cross mark both locations. The one on the west side of the intersection is a large wooden cross. The antlers attached drew my attention as another suddenly sacred site.

When I stopped to look closer, I noticed the messages written on the cross. I assume these come from family and friends. Many signed their names, but I couldn’t see the name of the deceased anywhere.  "See you in the next one," tells a visitor all they need.

A quick internet search didn’t turn up any recent news reports of a fatal accident at this location. The intersection is potentially dangerous. FM 955 terminates at the intersection with Hwy 71 and there’s only a stop sign to warn drivers of the high speed cross traffic.
